Badgerland Miniature Pinscher Club

History of the Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is generally believed to have evolved around the 15th century from the ancient German Pinscher family of dogs by crossing assorted terriers, the Dachshund and the Italian Greyhound. Germany is the country of origin for the Miniature Pinscher where it was known as the "Reh Pinscher" because of its resemblance to a small red Reh deer that roamed the German forests. The Min Pin is definitely not a "bred down" Doberman Pinscher since it is the older of these two breeds. Louis Doberman, who wanted to breed a larger sized guard dog that looked like the Miniature Pinscher, did not breed his first Doberman Pinscher until 1890.

The first Miniature Pinscher was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1925. In 1929 a group of Min Pin fanciers founded the Miniature Pinscher Club of America, the parent club for the breed.

On July 24, 2009, Badgerland held its first back-to-back specialty shows at the Waukesha Expo Center, Waukesha, Wisconsin. This arrangement was well received by the Min Pin fancy resulting in five point majors for both sexes at both shows.
